Sweet delights

No holiday is complete without a sweet discovery-- Délice, my new favorite confectionary in Dubai.

This jewel-box of a shop has an array of Arabic sweets and delicate marzipan and sugar creations, which are arranged in beautiful topiaries and glass cases.

Views from the Gulf

The Burj al Arab hotel with its disc-shaped, private helipad on the roof.

Approaching the skyline of the business district, as the haze lifted. The needle-shaped Burj Khalifa tower, the world's tallest structure, looms over the landscape. It looks even more majestic from the water than it did when we toured it's observation deck 2 years ago.

On the Persian Gulf

We sailed on the gulf on a crisp day with pristine blue skies, past islands dotted with palms and man-made architectural wonders floating in the middle of the water.

Yachts galore

We sailed past the million-dollar mega yachts lining the marina.

Dubai marina

Happy Friday!
We chartered a 27ft speedboat, helmed by the able Ronaldo and his firstmate Luigi, for a spin around the marina and the gulf.

In Dubai

Hubby and I had our requisite 3-night stop-over at the Grosvenor House in Dubai on our way back. The twisty tower, as we dubbed it, was only half the height when we last saw it out of our hotel room in June '12.

Feasting and a tad bleary by midnight

New year's feast

I'm a few day's behind in sharing pics of our year-end festivities--what with the sybaritic excesses of new year's coupled with jet lag....

Well, here you go, our feast on Dec 31st-- mutton biryani and chicken chaap, gloriously dished out of gigantic pots and merrily consumed by a rowdy  group of 21 while comfily lounging at home. Cheers!
